Equal Pay Day | GM INTEGRA HR

What is Equal Pay Day and why is it important?

Every February 22, Spain commemorates Equal Pay Day, a date that seeks to raise awareness about pay equity in the labor market. This day is based on a resolution of the European Parliament (2008/2012(INI)) that underlines the need to apply the principle of equal pay for work of equal value.

Despite progress in equality, wage differences remain a challenge in many organizations. Current regulations require companies to implement tools that guarantee salary transparency and pay equity.

Equal pay regulations: what must companies comply with?

To ensure equality in the workplace, specific regulations have been established in Spain that affect all companies.

Royal Decree 902/2020 on Equal Pay

This decree regulates the obligation of companies to have a salary register, providing data broken down by sex to identify possible unjustified salary differences.

Equality plans in companies with more than 50 employees

From 2022, all companies with more than 50 employees must implement an Equality Plan, which includes measures to promote salary equity and equal opportunities in the work environment.

Complying with these regulations not only avoids sanctions, but also improves corporate reputation and fosters a fairer and more productive work environment.

How to guarantee salary equality in your company?

To comply with current regulations, companies must adopt specific measures to ensure salary equity.

1. Mandatory salary register
It allows the salary structure to be analyzed and possible salary gaps to be detected.
It is mandatory for all companies, regardless of their size.
It must include data broken down by professional category and sex.
2. Implementation of an Equality Plan

Diagnosis of the current situation of the company in terms of equality.
Measures to reduce salary inequalities and promote diversity.
Monitoring and evaluation of the actions implemented.
