The General Disability Law (LGD), formerly known as LISMI, is a key piece of legislation that seeks to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace. In this article, we will explore the key aspects of this law and how companies can comply with its provisions to create more inclusive and equitable work environments.
What does the LGD establish?
The LGD establishes the obligation for companies to hire a minimum percentage of people with disabilities, based on their size and total number of employees. It is important to note that companies with a workforce of 50 or more employees are required to have at least 2% of them have a disability certificate with a percentage equal to or greater than 33%.
Consequences of non-compliance
Failure to comply with the LGD can lead to significant penalties for companies. These fines can reach up to 6,000 euros for each disabled worker not hired, or for the failure to implement alternative measures to comply with the regulations.
